Talkin' About KGATLW Albums

I've been listening to a lot of KGATLW recently. I'm slowly making my way through their discography. Here are my thoughts abt their albums, ordered roughly in the order I listened to them in. This is super WIP, im tired yo just tryin to put some stuff down.

Murder of the Universe
First Gizz album I ever listened to (thanks gecko!). TBA

Chunky Shrapnel
Second Gizz album I ever listened to. Randomly, one evening on the MBTA, I thought "hey I should give KGATLW another try." I opened this, at the time one of their most recent releases, not realizing it was a live album at first. Not to worry, though, I notoriously adore live albums (Daft Punk's "Alive 2007" is my fav album of all time, and Jeff Rosenstock's "Thanks, Sorry!" is in my top 10). As I sat on the Red Line late that night, I could feel the seed of something interesting implant itself into my skull. It would take one more album for Gizzard to really stick, though.

Nonagon Infinity
OOUUGUUGUHHHHHHHHHHH THIS ALBUM REPROGRAMMED MY BRAIN. You can pinpoint the sickness to the moment I heard Robot Stop on the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority's Commuter Rail. I lost it and never regained "it" since. The genesis of my KGATLW love. I've listened to this album, no joke, 500 times in the past 90 days according to last.fm. I recognize this isn't a review so much as me vomitting my love through HTML.

Flying Microtonal Banana
Flying Microtonal Banana, I love you. The first of their albums I listened to after I realized "yep, i'm becoming a gizz fan." Fun and funky, gorgeous pairing of interesting instrumentals and vocals. Rules.

Polygondwanaland
I knew of this album long before I got into KGATLW, famed for being released (masters and all!) to the fans for free. I really respect bands that do shit like this. I really respect their whole Bootlegger program as well. But wow yeah this album is a real trip. I bounced off it at first blush, but after returning and really listening (especially to Crumbling Castle - WOW that ending!) it really blew me away. Gizzverse is real, btw.
Fav: Crumbling Castle

Fishing for Fishies
Listened to on a bright, early-summer day. At first I thought this album would bounce off me - I found its vibes kinda cheesy. But really it's such a delight. Super cute, real entertaining bops with a great message. I wanna let those fishies freely swim too. My mom also really liked this album LOL!

I'm In Your Mind Fuzz
I'm in your mind. I'm not in your mind. I'm in your mind, fuzz. A more rough, psych-rock version of a sound they perfected in Nonagon. Holds a real special place in my heart, for some reason. Love those guitar riffs and that harmonica.

Butterfly 3000
I held off on this album for a while -- I think because I knew it was so different I thought I'd be super turned off by the depature in sound. But god, how wrong I was! It's a beautiful, melodic album filled with the classic Gizz sound put through a bright synth lens. It really solidified their mastery of experimentation and understanding of different genres in general. A real delight to listen to.
Fav: Catching Smoke

Paper Mâché Dream Balloon
Nice, dreamlike, chill vibes to study or sleep to. Except for the last 30 seconds of the album. Different from the rest, but in a pleasnt way.

Albums I have yet to listen to or that need to marinate in my brain a bit longer: - Willoughby's Beach EP - Twelve Bar Bruise - Eyes Like The Sky - Float Along - Fill Your Lungs - Oddments - Quarters! - Sketches of Brunswick East - Gumboot Soup - Infest the Rat's Nest - K.G. - L.W. - Teenage Gizzard - Butterfly 3001 - Omnium Gatherum
